Description
We wrote the first version of this song about five years ago. I never felt it quite worked, but I liked the melody and lyrics of the outro. It was shelved without a vocal. Fast forward to December 2022 when I thought we should attempt a rewrite. This time we used the old outro as the chorus and rewrote the lyrics and melody of the verses. To continue the radical approach we used bagpipes in the instrumental section, the coda a male voice choir and concluding with a very high pitch in the melody line. Unbelievably Amelia was able to sing those notes. It was one of those writing sessions when everything worked quite quickly. Many thanks once again to Amelia for her superb singing.
The lyrics are quite simply a reflection on past loves when things don’t work out, hard feelings and regrets take over, which remain years later. No one took the the time, or were in the frame of mind, to say ‘thanks for the good times, they were some of the best times of my life. We were in love weren’t we ? I learnt so much. About you, love, life, relationships, music, food and drink. Everything. Thank you.”
