This song started life as a leftover riff from writing “Samuel Colt Did”. When we’re song writing both of us will sometimes come up with ideas that sound pretty good, but ultimately don’t really fit the song. These are the leftovers.
We must have dozens of these on the computer somewhere-riffs, chords, endings, solos, intros.

It was OK but didn’t really sound bluesy enough, so after listening to some old blues tracks (Manish Boy by Muddy Waters for example) I suggested we double some of the guitar sounds with a harmonica. Bang – there it was, a blues song!
Work began on the lyrics about this time, whilst we were still adding guitar licks and arranging the whole song.
We wanted them to be blues like in that the singer is fed up and life has been tough on them. But rather than the classic “she left me and done me wrong” we thought a slightly different, more modern twist ( “when the banks went bust”) would be the thing, coupled with a little humour.
Simon came in recently and we captured his superb world weary vocal and he added his interpretation and there you have it.
